In the gardens of the cathedral we find cypresses, fig trees, rose bushes, bird of paradise flowers, bitter orange trees, mandarin trees, privet, Canary Island palms, date palms and Californian Washington palms and many more. The so-called “Patio de los Naranjos” (in English: “courtyard of the orange trees”) is very beautiful, with its entrance between a chain fence. There, a small tree with white flowers and fruits such as the black olive, also called “Toxicophlea spectabilis” (because it is poisonous), stands out. This species comes from the “Cabo de Buena Esperanza” and is particularly interesting because it is used to poison arrows using its own sap.
