Tips

  • The exact dates of the origin of the castle are in the dark. It was probably built on a mountain spur at the beginning of the 13th century by the knights of Neiperg (Neuburg). The name of the castle has survived to this day.
Neuberg Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1288. King Rudolf I gave the property to the bailiffs of Plauen as a fief. Although he came from the Habsburg family, he carried on the tradition of the Staufer and used the bailiffs to secure the territory. It is therefore also part of the cultural trail of the bailiffs.

  • Podhradí u Aše:
Podhradí is located three kilometers north of the town of Aš in the Bohemian Vogtland and thus belongs to the Egerland. The area called the Sudeten Germans the Asher Ländchen or the Ascher Zipfel, as the surrounding area of Asch pulls up like a corner on the Bohemian northwest flank between the Saxon Vogtland and Upper Franconia.
    Castle Keep of Neuberk Castle:
The 22-meter high keep of Neuberg castle ruins overlooks the village of Podhradí. Already in the Thirty Years War, the castle was devastated. Below the castle was built in the 17th century the "Schlössel", which was extended to 1752. For this one used castle remains as building material. Castle burnt down in 1902, was not rebuilt and finally demolished in 1965. Today, only parts of the foundations are visible.
The Church of the Good Shepherd - very worth seeing:
Next to the keep is the church "Zum guten Shepherd". Built at the end of the 15th century as a castle and funerary chapel, it soon became Protestant and in 1682, after the conversion into a baroque church. The style is interpreted in the interior, however, very unusual. Presumably, the wonderful paintings on the gallery, altar and pulpit, as well as the church chairs from this era come. Since 1992, also home expellees take care of the preservation of the worth seeing Kirchleins.

  • A varied tour through the ruins of Neuberg Castle awaits in Podhradí. The panels bring the history of the castle to life with pictures. The evangelical church "Zum guten Hirten" sees in front of the ruin. It was built by the von Zedtwitz family from 1470-1490.
