It is a final rural part of the path that was already described in 1617 as 'the footpath from Lokeren to Ghent'.
A years-long appeal procedure was conducted against the abolition of this footpath by local residents and VZW Durme.
In 2008, the minister granted these appeals. In 2014, the city council of Lokeren assigned the management of this path to VZW Durme.
