The Almaty Central Mosque is a magnificent example of Islamic architecture in Kazakhstan's largest city. As one of the country's largest mosques, it can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers and is distinguished by its traditional, blue-tiled domes and minarets.
Completed in 1999, the mosque is a center of religious life in Almaty. It stands on the foundations of an older mosque that had become too small to meet the needs of the growing Muslim community. The current Central Mosque was designed to serve both spiritual practice and community building.
