The Coendersborg in Nuis was created by merging the Fossemaheerd, Harkemaplaats and Heringheplaats. The current borg was built in 1813 on the site of the former Fossemaheerd. In 1534, Hemko IJpens Harkema, sworn judge in the western part of Vredewold, became the owner of the Ooster Fossemaheerd through an exchange with Sywert Fossuma.

Hiking

The Coendersborg, named after the Coenders family, was created from the merger of land from three farms: that of the Fossema, Harckema and Heringe families. The borg itself was built on the site where the Fossema family had a fortified farm and dates back to the end of the seventeenth century.
