This forest pond, surrounded by a rampart, is a so-called fishery, Groningen for fish pond. In the past, when the freezer did not exist, fish was kept alive in it. Roaches, bass, pike, bream:
the trawl went through it regularly, so that fresh fish was always available. In any case on "Friday fishing day". Centuries ago, almost every village in Groningen had such a fishery. Over time they have disappeared. This fishery belonged to the rectory of Nuis.
