The station building from 1847, located on the Bruges-Kortrijk line, was mainly used by seasonal workers who went to work in the northern French chicory fields.
It was closed in 1955.
Since then it has been reopened once more, or more precisely: a temporary station was built next to the old station on the occasion of the 2007 Cyclocross World Championships. The station was given the name WK Hooglede-Gits.
The old station served as a daycare centre for many years.
Recently, the whole thing was completely redeveloped into infrastructure for the sports clubs present on the first floor. There is a canteen, terrace, 2 large changing rooms, 1 small changing room, toilets, storage rooms and a public toilet. A camper suggestion place was also provided at the front/side of the building.
The whole thing was officially put into use in June 2024. The building will initially be made available to the football clubs during the weekends during the season, but the athletics club, tennis club, ... will also use it. And other (non-sports) associations or private individuals can also rent the canteen.
