This work of art was unveiled on the occasion of the redevelopment of the market in 2002. It represents two seated figures, a man and a woman. The statue of the woman is slender but solid, made of bronze. The statue of the man is coarse, with large hands and a cap on his head. He is transparent and made of aluminium tubes. They both sit on a marble tree trunk that has been sawn into planks.
Together they have a bond as a couple, but there is also a bond with the municipality. The woman is the constant in the family. She takes care of the household, the children and stays at home in Lichtervelde.
The man is transparent, he goes out to work. Is sometimes away from home for weeks. Often as a seasonal worker in France, asteman, hard labour but there was good money to be earned for home. This statue was made by members of Art Circle Da Vinci:
