Besides the historical background that inspired the architects of this tour, even for citizen of West Flanders (especially one of the cities along the traject) it is an amazing tour that proves that the region isn't that flat as we used to think. Every village has some small local 'hills', but traveling from one hill to another is quite impressive. If you do the trip during Covid-19, take enough drinks and some snacks in your Camelback.... and just enjoy the tour!

German Military Cemetery Hooglede
From October 1914, German troops occupied the municipality of Hooglede. Many services and facilities were set up there, including a number of cemeteries. After the war, German graves from the area were brought together. Now approximately 8,200 German soldiers rest here. At the back of the cemetery you will find the 'Ehrenhalle', decorated with a large colorful mosaic.

The German cemetery in Hooglede is also undergoing a number of adjustments in the run-up to 2014-2018. You will be able to find more information about the cemetery in a new reception pavilion. A walking loop takes you from here to other WWI sites in Hooglede.
