Søby Church dates from 1745.
In 1870 Professor Jørgen Roed painted the altarpiece showing Christ on the cross and the Virgin Mary kneeling next to it. The Pietà painting (Virgin Mary with the corpse of Jesus) was painted by Magdalene Hammerich in 1917 and donated by her brother, the sculptor Gunnar Hammerich, in connection with the main restoration of the church in 1978.
