The Lembecksburg served as a protective castle against the Vikings in the 9th and 10th centuries. It is located near the town of Borgsum. Today all that remains of the former castle is the eight meter high ring wall. This offers you a wonderful all-round view over the island of Föhr and into the castle interior with a diameter of 100 meters.

Excavations began again in the summer of 2021 in order to find out more about the castle's actual purpose and useful life.

The ring wall that dominates the landscape lies on a natural geest core. The 95m long castle interior is protected by a 10m high rampart, which is interrupted by a gate in the south. In the eastern foreland there is a low rampart and a shallow ditch.
During the excavations carried out in the interior of the castle in 1951/52, the floor plans of the house were uncovered and numerous potsherds, loom weights, iron implements and soapstone vessels were recovered; they date the ring wall to the Viking Age (9th/10th century).

The ground monument on the Geestrand can be seen from afar due to its dimensions and is definitely worth a short stopover for a visit.
