The Christ of the Abyss, a bronze work by the sculptor Vito Pancella, returned to the sea today, after being stolen on June 4 and found on July 1 in the waters of the port of San Vito Chietino. The statue, 73 centimeters tall and weighing 15 kilos, was placed back at a depth of 6 meters in front of the small port of Vallevò in Rocca San Giovanni where it had been located since August 7, 1994.

This symbolic place was born from the dream of two friends to "spread and pass on the traditions, including religious ones, of the people of Abruzzo". The idea was strengthened with the sharing of the community and the support of those cultural, sports and service associations that also lent themselves by offering their economic contribution.
In 1994, with the collaboration of the ORSA MINORE Diving Association of Lanciano, the ROTARY CLUB Lanciano, the PA-NATHLON CLUB Lanciano and the SCOGLIO DEL GABBIANO Association of Vallevò, the sculptor Vito Pancella was commissioned to create a bronze statue to be immersed in the seabed of the Costa dei Trabocchi. continues...
