The lifeboat station in Lökken was established in 1852 at the same time as the rescue service was introduced. There have been several lifeboat stations in the town. The current one was built in 1937. Many sailors have been rescued from here. The station was abandoned in 1937 and the Coastal Fisheries Museum was established in it in 1992.

Almost every larger town on the North Sea coast has such a house, which houses a boat—usually a very old one—used to rescue those who have died at sea. It's worth a look through the windows!

During my last visit to Jammer Bay during the summer holidays, it wasn't a museum yet. Unfortunately, the museum doesn't seem to be open during the off-season. Until my next visit—hopefully in the summer—I can't provide any pictures of the interior.

What's worse is that the restroom at the rear of the building can apparently only be used when the museum is open... 😉

On the left corner of the platform in front of the Løkken Sea Rescue House, overlooking Løkken Harbor and the North Sea, is one of the pedestals that allows you to take a photo from your smartphone and participate in a global citizen science project to record changes in coastlines.

The coasts of Jammerbugt, where, depending on the weather, erosion can be noticeably observed even within a single vacation, are particularly worth participating in.

Learn more here or via the QR codes on the pedestals, where you can position your phone to take photos:
