Mallorca is home to numerous lime kilns, silent witnesses to a once thriving industry. Scattered throughout the island, they recall the time when lime was an important building material. In these kilns, limestone was fired at high temperatures to produce quicklime. This lime was then slaked with water and processed into lime mortar, which was used to build houses and walls.

Today, most of the lime kilns are no longer in use. However, they remain an important testament to Mallorcan history and culture.
