The Lorsch Old Town Hall dates back to 1715. Above a brick ground floor with large round arched windows rise two decorative decorated half-timbered floors. The front is emphasized by bay windows on the building edges. In the middle of the gable wall towers above the top of the clock tower. The tourist information can be found on the ground floor today.

This marketplace has its own charm. Small and very beautiful. If you sit in one of the numerous cafés, you can admire a world cultural heritage site on one side and a magnificent medieval half-timbered town hall on the other.

Approaching from the east, on the path called "Kulturachse", the Lorsch Abbey, you will first notice the huge monastery walls. Above them rises the green of the small hill on which the monastery was built in the 8th century, the remains of which can be admired today.

Central to the area are the remains of the formerly three-nave basilica, from which only parts of the Romanesque central nave are preserved. If you leave the gate, you can see the elongated building of the tithe barn on the left. Below the basilica is the Carolingian period (8th / 9th century) originating gate hall, also known as King's Hall: with its three distinctive arcades formed the rectangular building with its decorative, designed in red and white sandstone façade and its two round, side stair towers the actual entrance of the monastery district.

The visitor information center is located north of the Torhalle .

The monastery area with the church fragment and the king's hall is - on foot - freely accessible. Bicycles can be parked at the visitor center or push.
