"The bridge was originally called Watterbrücke because it led into Wattenrodt - a swamp clearing of today's Grossenacker. The original wooden bridge was replaced by the current stone construction in 1774. Until 1802 there was a customs station between the Hessian and the Kurmainzer on the bridge area. "
