The Meuchelberg is located in the Rureifel in the Hohes Venn-Eifel nature park in the urban area of Heimbach. As a circular mountain, it is surrounded by a loop of the river Rur, like a peninsula in the north, east and south. In the west and north, the facade connects directly to the urban area of Heimbach and can be reached from there via several entrances. In the eastern part of the Meuchelberg, in the Rur loop, lies the spa park of the city, which is surrounded by the street Über Rur and is connected to the urban area by a bridge over the Rur. This is connected to the Am Meuchelbergweg in the west by hiking trails on Meuchelberg. From the north, you can reach the area via the Schönblick trail, which starts directly behind the community primary school and the forest cemetery. There are also several viewpoints on the slopes from which the city and the Rur can be viewed.

The Meuchelberg slopes sharply towards the Roer. The slopes above the Roer are locally characterised by pronounced slate cliffs. The Heimbach reservoir lies to the south.
