The Romanian Orthodox monastery of Piatra Fântânele (Mănăstirea Nașterea Maicii Domnului), which is currently being expanded to include a large church, is located on Pasul Tihuța. In 2010, the Bistrita-Năsăud County Council had a 31-meter-high steel cross erected here. It is the highest in the country and cost around 300,000 euros. Thanks to the LED lighting system, it is also visible at night.
