Wonderful view from the castle hill over the village and the Wiedtal. Well preserved keep, unfortunately locked. There are different ways up to the mountain. One paved path from Burgstrasse and a narrow, steep hiking path from Ritterstrasse.

Parts of the ruin were used to build other buildings.
Above there is a bench and table as well as a relaxation lounger.
The footpath (not the channel) was overgrown as of June 2021, but is still accessible.
The Wied previously flowed around the castle hill on 3 sides and now runs south.

Ehrenstein is mentioned for the first time in 1331 when Rorich von Uetgenbach called himself "Herr zu Ehrenstein". It is believed that the castle was built by the lords of Uetgenbach and expanded in the 15th century under the rule of the Nesselrode. In 1632 it was largely destroyed by Swedish troops. Since then the castle has been in ruins.
