A church in Peterslahr was first mentioned in 1326. The still preserved tower and two stained glass windows, which are now in the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt, point to the second half of the 12th century as the time of construction. The old church consisted of a nave and a rectangular chancel. Major renovations were undertaken in the 18th century. After the church had become too small and was also in poor condition, it was decided to build a new one. The baptistery and the lower part of the tower remain from the original church.

The new church was built in the neo-Romanesque style according to the plans of the architect Ludwig Hofmann (1862-1933) from Herborn. The church was built in 1900/01 with a large contribution from the population. On April 30, 1904, it was consecrated by auxiliary bishop Karl Ernst Schrod.
