Until 1898, Hove had no station. There had been a stop since 1888, where only one train in each direction stopped on Fridays. In 1892, a waiting room was added, an old railway carriage without wheels. On 1 October 1898, the first stone building was opened. In this way, Hove got a real stop. At that time, 27 trains stopped there every day and with two freight trains that also stopped daily, people could take parcels and luggage. In 1932, the railway bed was dug out. Two double tracks and a new station building were built. The current railway bridge replaced the barrier. The station was closed by the NMBS in 2005 and now serves as a café.

    Moe Lies

In 1978, the first centenarian was celebrated as the first honorary citizen of Hove, Elisabeth Verbeeck, better known as ‘Moe Lies’. This happened on 25 and 26 February 1978, with a festive programme in which the entire municipality participated: a youth party, an exhibition in the Kostershuisje, a procession (all participants dressed in the clothing of 1900 and depicting the entire life of the centenarian) and a solemn thanksgiving mass, with a reception in the town hall and a tribute in the Prinsenhof. In a packed council chamber and in the presence of Prime Minister Tindemans, mayor Swaelen awarded the title of honorary citizen on behalf of the municipality. Moe Lies was 103 years old: she died on 31 August 1981. She had been a barrier guard at the Hove station for many years
