The Prussian Hauptkadettenanstalt existed from 1878 to 1920. It was built from 1873-1878. It was the central cadet institute of the Prussian Army from 1882 to 1920. The world's first electric tram drove here.
From 1920 to 1934 the cadet institute was used as a state educational institute (Stabila). In the 3rd Reich it was the barracks of the SS Leibstandarte. From 1945 to 1994 the Andrews Barracks of the US Army was located here. The Berlin Federal Archives have been located here ever since.

From here, the first electric tram in the world went to Groß-Lichterfelde station (now Lichterfelde Ost) in 1881.

Today, among other things, the Federal Archives are located here. The swimming pool is also open to the public at certain times and is worth seeing.
