The traditional name "Old Schoolhouse" for the Weiden City Museum derives from the fact that both the German School and the Latin School were housed here since 1565. The Weiden City Museum in Upper Palatinate was founded in 1896 as a collection of trade samples by Supreme Court Judge Albert Vierling and expanded into a local history museum in 1902 by City Archivist Hans Wagner and Magistrate Christian Aichinger. Since 1979, it has been housed in the "Hans Bauer" Cultural Center, a box building belonging to the Clothmakers' Guild's Old Alms Foundation, which was completed in 1566.

Old schoolhouse

The "Old Schoolhouse" is located in Schulgasse in Weiden's old town. The building was built in 1529 as a grain store by the Weiden cloth makers.

The current "Hans Bauer Cultural Center" now houses the town museum, town archives, the Max Reger rooms, the town gallery and the Tachau local history museum with memorabilia from the sponsoring circle and the town of Tachau in Bohemia.
