During the First World War, potatoes were grown here, as in many other parks in Stockholm.
In the last period of her life, writer Astrid Lindgren lived in an apartment overlooking the park and Vasaparken appears regularly in her books.
As a tribute, the section on the east side was named after Astrid Lindgren.
