The St. Johann church in Bisamberg is said to have been built and donated in 1294 at the expense of the community and the landowners.

As early as 1203, in addition to the Freihof and the stately castle, a castle chapel was also mentioned, which is considered to be the Romanesque core of today's parish church. This Romanesque core, built before 1203, consists of a 6.65 x 11.60 m, three-bay nave and had a flat ceiling.

The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The main altar shows the former altarpiece of the hospital church with a depiction of the Holy Family and above it the coat of arms of the counts of the Traun and Strattmann families, both framed in a gilded frame supported by angels. This work is attributed to the Steyr master Jakob Pokorny, from around 1690. In the church are also the two tombstones of Countess Anna Theresia von Abensperg und Traun, née Sinzendorf, and her husband, Count Johann Adam Josef von Abensperg und Traun to see. The count's crypt lies under the presbytery
