At that time, along navigable waters such as the Elbe, there were so-called Bomätscher linen or towpaths. There were communities on the Elbe that lived essentially from the work of the men as Bomätschers, such as Lorenzkirch, Merschwitz, Parey and Loschwitz (now part of Dresden).
In some places, a paved path can be seen directly on the banks of the Elbe: the historic towpath is still partially preserved in the Dresden city area. Steam shipping has only been around for about 150 years. On both sides of the Elbe, you can see sections of a path paved with reddish sandstone blocks. Path close to the water.
