One of the oldest mills in the Groningen district.

      Built in 1763/1870

      Stone octagonal with wooden superstructure.

The stone octagonal was raised in 1870. The Edens Mill is a gallery mill (Stellingmolen), Bovenkruier (top-turning mill). Used as a gristmill and today as a grain mill. Two parallel grinding stones, sail sails, and a codend.

The Edens Grain Mill is the oldest and tallest windmill in the province of Groningen. The mill was extensively restored in 1985. In 2006, the mill was raised by 3 m to ensure sufficient wind for the windmill through the higher buildings in the surrounding area. The impression of two entrance gates one above the other is not deceptive. The elevations at the base of the windmill, with the wooden octagonal structure remaining largely unchanged, make the mill appear disproportionate.

Diameter of the windmill blades: 22.40 m

      Comb wheel with 71 combs

      Gallery height: 13 m

Municipal property since 1960. With its ensemble of three gallery windmills, Winschoten is considered a mill town (molenstad).

No other Dutch town can boast three windmills.
