In the past, this location was a bridge (under the tram) over the factory moat that supplied water to the hydraulic systems used in textile factories, before electricity.

The street dictionary of MP Léon tells us that the name comes from the fact that the middle of the bridge parapet was originally decorated with stone lions leaning on the arms of Erard de la Marck, prince-bishop from 1506 to 1538.
