The tower and wall remains found along the lakeside path are part of the former castle wall of the old castle in Possenhofen. It was divided into an inner and an outer castle wall, with the ruins belonging to the outer wall, which extended almost down to the lake. At the far end of the wall were outbuildings, which were later replaced by the horseshoe-shaped New Castle. The old castle is a square building with four transverse corner towers. The castle chapel is located between the two sections.
