Philipp Otto Runge was born in this house. For this reason, the city of Wolgast has built a museum here dedicated to the life of the early romantic painter.

It is open from May to October from Tuesday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

With his four engravings: Morning, Evening, Day, Night, Runge was the first painter to set the program for the new Romantic art in Germany. Inspired by holistic ideas, Runge also devoted himself to color theory, designed playing cards and wrote down Pomeranian fairy tales, such as “Vom Fischer un sin Fru”, which found its way into Grimm's fairy tales. In the exhibition, which was redesigned in 2017, you can get closer to the artist's world interactively. The birthplace of Philipp-Otto Runge (1777 – 1810) is located on Kronwiekstraße, not far from the harbor.
The house and the picturesque courtyard are open for the annual culture night in August. Music and theater invite visitors to get to know the romantic side of the city of Wolgast. In the living room gallery, the Rungehaus offers temporary exhibitions by selected artists.
