Tips

  • Opposite the cathedral is the large Royal Farm. A magnificent 12th-century residence, the farm is considered the oldest inhabited wooden house in Europe. The name "Royal Farm" comes from the fact that the Norwegian King Sverre (1151-1202) was born and raised here as the illegitimate son of his mother Gunnhild, who was married to a brother of the Faroese Bishop Roes and had fled from Norway to Kirkjubøur.
