The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kalavryta is a central religious and historical monument, its architecture closely linked to the city's identity. Since Kalavryta was almost completely destroyed in 1943, its current appearance is a blend of traditional elements and more modern reconstruction. The church is an imposing stone structure, distinguished by its two-tone facade: light-colored plasterwork contrasts with exposed natural stone masonry at the corners and towers. The two symmetrical towers with red domes are particularly striking. The right tower (from the viewer's perspective) houses the famous stopped clock, a reminder of the 1943 massacre.
