This meanwhile renovated train is a hit and popular with tourists from all over the world. It can be useful to get your ticket online in advance.
Unfortunately in Greece information is not always easily accessible or up-to-date.
We wanted to take the train up through the spectacular Vouraikos gorge. Unfortunately the train didn't run because of a landslide. So we had to take a taxi to Kalavrita because the bus did not go on Saturday either: ((
Conversations with other E4 hikers on the route showed that the earth rush is not so severe and that you can hike up the tracks without any problems. It is also very relaxing when you know there is no train when you walk through the tunnel.
Definitely recommended, but be careful!

An impressive experience: the journey on the narrow-gauge railway to Kalavrita.

Claimed to be the narrowest gauge train in Europe at 0.75 m, the Vouraikos gorge train enters the gorge 3 km north of the village of Kato Zachlorou at an altitude of 730 meters and continues parallel to the river, traveling a distance of 20 kilometers to reach the village of Diakopto (Municipality of Egialia), a journey of one hour.
