Dimitrios Dapanakis Street is named after one of the victims of the Kalavryta Massacre. This tragic event took place on December 13, 1943, during World War II, when German Wehrmacht troops murdered almost the entire male population of the town and destroyed it.

Today, many streets in Kalavryta are named after the men and boys who died in this war crime, in order to preserve their memory.
