In German, Tamsel is a place not far from Küstrin. It was first mentioned in documents around 1200, making it one of the oldest places in the Neumark region.
"Tamsel is a wealthy, beautifully situated village, about an hour's walk northeast of Küstrin. Wooded hills, whose winding lines presumably mark the old bed of the Warta River, enclose it from the north, while to the south the landscape lies open, and the river branches wind in all sorts of twists and turns through the marshland."
