The 1907 built old lighthouse at Eckernförder harbor is 12 m high and was replaced in 1981 by the new modern 10.5 m high and red and white painted lighthouse on the new pier. The old lighthouse was preserved for traditional reasons and was painted blue-yellow to prevent confusion.
