HMS Warrior was Britain’s first iron-hulled, armoured warship and remains a jaw-dropping feat of engineering today. Finished in 1860, she started active service in 1862. Two years later, however, Warrior was superseded by faster ships with better armour and bigger guns and was soon relegated to coast guard and reserve duties. After being put up for sale for scrap in the 1920s, Warrior was eventually rescued and saved in the 1980s. For more information, visit: historicdockyard.co.uk.
