Bike Touring Highlight
The railway line Kempen - Venlo was planned on the basis of a contract between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Prussia between 1864 and 1866, built by the Rhenish Railway Company in Cologne from 1866 and put into operation on 1 January 1868. The German Federal Railways shut down the freight traffic between Kempen and Grefrath as well as the passenger traffic between Kempen and Kaldenkirchen on 30 April 1983. The cycle path between Kempen and Grefrath was built by the city of Kempen and the municipality of Grefrath in 1986 and 1987. He mostly uses the disused railway line.
