Dating back to the 15th century, the extensively renovated abbey is the Wunstorf Cultural Center. Together with the numerous renovated half-timbered houses in the inner city lane "Wasserzucht" this ensemble has a unique character for Wunstorf.

In the early 16th century the abbey was the seat of the abbess, today it hosts art exhibitions and lectures.

As a rule, donors and monasteries form a self-contained complex, within which the abbey house can be found in the entrance area. In Wunstorf, however, the abbey deviates from this norm. The abbey house as we see it today has held its place on the hilltop for some 450 years.
