The Alt-Rahlstedt church in the Wandsbek district is characterized by a lively community life. Wedding couples also regularly choose the church to tie the knot here. It was therefore important not only from a monument preservation perspective, but also for the community that extensive restoration work was carried out in 2008. The sacred building, which was built on the site of a baptismal chapel, was first mentioned in 1248. It is a single-nave fieldstone building made of granite. The irregular and heavily patched masonry of the nave is one of the indications that the building has existed for many centuries. The square church tower rises up on the west side of the church. One part was built around 1780 in half-timbering, the rest in brick masonry. The medieval granite building contains valuable furnishings from the Middle Ages to modern times: for example, a wooden crucifix from the second half of the 15th century, a simple three-part altarpiece from 1695 with paintings and a brass chandelier from 1744. The wooden pulpit with carved evangelist figures, which was created around 1720, comes - like the crucifix - from the first Wandsbek church. Other furnishings include a window with Gothic brick profiling near the pulpit, wooden figures of Peter and James from the middle of the 15th century and a bronze bell from 1494. Due to the long history that the Alt-Rahlstedt church can look back on, structural changes were inevitable. For example, in the 18th century, the priest's gate on the south side was enlarged and given a vestibule. Changes to the windows followed around 1870.

The German Foundation for Monument Protection promoted measures to preserve the church tower.

Nice old church in Alt-Rahlstedt. Partly still field stone work.
