The Thingplatz in Windeck-Herchen contained a National Socialist memorial in memory of those who fell in the First World War. In the rotunda, which has been preserved to this day, you can still read the inscription "Born as a German - Lived as a fighter - Fallen as a hero - Risen as a people"; the plaques with the names of the fallen soldiers that used to be attached underneath are no longer there. The Thingplatz, built on a mountain spur above the village, was built in 1934 and corresponds to the large-scale National Socialist architectural style. During the National Socialist era, party and school events were held here on May 1st and on Hitler's birthday after a large inauguration ceremony.
