Hiking
The Lauterach rises in Lauterhofen in the Franconian Alb from two springs, the Lauterbrunnen and the Ziegelbrunnen. It flows through the Upper Palatinate Jura in an east to southeast direction through the municipal areas of Lauterhofen, Kastl, Hohenburg and Schmidmühlen. In the town of Schmidmühlen it flows into the Vils from the right.
