As a sanatorium for patients with lung diseases, the Beelitz sanatoriums on the outskirts of Berlin were by far the largest facility of their kind before the First World War. Equipped with the most modern surgical and therapeutic facilities, the site quickly gained an excellent reputation.

With the discovery of new treatment methods after the Second World War, the sanatoriums lost their importance. After being used as a Soviet military hospital, the reunification led to long periods of vacancy, some of which have continued to this day, and this led to vandalism and decay. However, for several years now, thanks to various entrepreneurial initiatives, new life has been emerging in Beelitz with a variety of uses.

The Beelitz Heilstätten are a lost place near Berlin and a popular destination for the whole family. Over 100 years ago it was a lung sanatorium, but today it is a large adventure park with a treetop path, barefoot park, playgrounds, beer garden, snack stands and cafeterias. The 200-hectare park has its origins in the abandoned, dilapidated buildings of the former sanatorium and tuberculosis sanatorium Beelitz-Heilstätten.

It will be interesting to see what will emerge here after restoration.
