The entire barrier is nine kilometers long.
There are 65 pillars in total, weighing up to 18,000 tons and up to 65 meters high. Between them, 62 movable gates were suspended, which are 42 meters wide. The height of the gates is between 5.9 and 11.9 meters, the heaviest weigh up to 500 tons. The gates can be closed within an hour. The storm surge barrier has to be closed about once a year due to weather conditions.
