The Hüneburg/ Château de Hunebourg in the French department of Bas-Rhin on a 425 meter high sandstone cliff.
The castle was originally all or half of the imperial property, but the Bishop of Strasbourg also had rights here, as did the Electorate of the Palatinate. The existence of the castle was first mentioned in documents in 1125.
It is privately owned and cannot be visited, but just walking along the steep cliffs on which this mighty castle sits is an experience.
