The Maison des Rochers can be visited for €3 per entry. It actually forms a set of three so-called semi-troglodyte dwellings. The small village of Graufthal in the valley of interest was built in the 12th century around the local Benedictine abbey. Several caves dug into the high rocks of pink sandstone served as storage for the monks before they were gradually converted into homes: the rocks served as the back wall and the rock as the ceiling and floor. Only the light blue front facades are built by human hands. The last cave dweller Catherine Ottermann died in 1958.
