Cabo Espichel is the most southwestern point on the Setúbal Peninsula. The rugged rocks fall steeply down to the coast and form a wonderful, wildly romantic backdrop.

There are many interesting places to discover on the cap, for example dinosaur footprints or the unique church of Sanutario de Nossa Senhora do Cabo with two long buildings that used to house pilgrims.

The lighthouse was still fueled with olive oil in 1790. It was only in 1886 that petroleum was used. You can visit it in the afternoon (free entry). The church was built in the early 18th century. (Santuario do Cabo Espichel) . Around an inner courtyard there are long, seemingly endless buildings that look like barracks. Only the arcades indicate that they belong to the church. It was simply a hostel for the many pilgrims who made the pilgrimage to the Cape Heavenly Mother and asked for the protection of seafarers in the wild seas.
