It could be considered a joke - but around 1920, Hamburg actually had a lignite mine, Robertshall, for four years.

Mining became unprofitable after a few years and the mine closed. The pits are shown here on large panels, "in real", however, except for a few remains of the wall completely disappeared. A small "mining trail" leads to the right places with illustrated plates.

However, at that time the 20km long tunnels were not refilled, so the break of the day creates a bizarre lunar landscape that reaches deep into the forest. Many consider the craters to be World War II relics, but this is wrong.

Once you know that the earth does not calm down there, then running on byways becomes a bit spooky when you see how deep the holes are ...

The lignite mine was long forgotten history. But in the course of the construction work on Ehestorfer Heuweg and the strange disappearance of building material into the interior of the earth, the old mine has aroused the interest again. Numerous tunnels were not filled at that time and now threaten to collapse.

I come out of this corner, but still didn't know anything about the mining history. That reads very exciting! 👍🏻
But it was only two and not four years of activity. It can be seen in the middle of the large table and on the lore.
