Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia (1207 - 1231) is probably the most prominent canonized woman in Germany, along with Saint Hildegard of Bingen. In particular because of her great charitable commitment to the poor, she has been highly revered from an early age. The miracle of the roses is popularly known today, but it has not yet been documented in the large biographies and early collections of legends.
The commemoration day of Saint Elisabeth in the (Roman) calendar of saints is on November 17th, but differs from this in Germany and in the Protestant Church on November 19th.
