If you want to retrace the past, a visit to the Pfenniggrab near Hagen is worthwhile. This megalithic tomb dates back to the Neolithic period and is one of the most impressive megalithic structures on Rügen. According to an ancient legend, a priest of the goddess Hertha once kept offerings here.

With the beginning of the Younger Stone Age, traces of the first settlement in Rügen began to accumulate. Forest areas were cleared and converted into fields. As a result, people settled down and founded their first settlements. The most important tools used by people at that time were carved flint stones, such as flint sickles for harvesting grain. You still come across such traces of civilization relatively often today, e.g. B. take a closer look at freshly plowed fields.
Much more obvious traces, however, are the large stone graves, which can be assigned to approximately the same period. They were usually made up of a border of large stone blocks, over which a boulder (very large stones brought in from the Ice Age) was placed as a "roof". An already covered grave, the "Pfenniggrab", is located just 1 kilometer from Hagen, directly on the way to Lake Hertha and Königsstuhl.
